Discover Cupro (Bemberg): A Luxurious Knit Material

Today, we’d like to introduce Cupro, a material frequently used in refined knitwear for its elegance and exceptional feel.

Cupro is a type of regenerated fiber, similar to viscose. It is also known as Bemberg, after the German company that first succeeded in its industrial production.

Cupro vs. Viscose

While viscose is made from wood pulp, the main raw material for Cupro is cotton linter—the short fibers left on cotton seeds after the cotton has been harvested. These fibers are dissolved and spun into yarn, creating Bemberg.
Both viscose and Cupro were industrialized around the same time, making Cupro a fiber with a long and rich history.

Characteristics of Cupro

Although the raw materials differ, Cupro shares many of rayon’s desirable properties, such as excellent moisture absorption and dyeability. Beyond these, it offers unique advantages:

Silky Elegance

Cupro fibers have a perfectly round cross-section, giving them a beautiful sheen and a luxurious, silk-like appearance. This quality makes them suitable even for linings in garments.

Soft and Comfortable

The round fiber shape, combined with superior moisture absorption and release, results in a smooth, silk-like touch. The fibers are fine and supple, providing a soft feel against the skin. Static electricity is minimal, so fabrics made from Cupro do not cling.

Durable

Unlike viscose, Cupro is remarkably strong. Its strength does not decrease when wet, and it is resistant to heat, light, and abrasion, making it ideal for creating delicate, lightweight fabrics.
(Note: Friction can cause some fuzzing over time.)

Excellent Blending Properties

Cupro blends well with other fibers, allowing for versatile yarns and fabrics that combine the best features of multiple materials.

This yarn allows for seasonless designs with a refined texture, demonstrating the versatility and sustainability of Cupro.

Cupro is a premium fiber that highlights both elegance and comfort. Its combination of luxurious feel, durability, and versatility makes it a go-to material for sophisticated knitwear.
