LUCIE : A Rare Japanese Yarn-Making Technique Found Nowhere Else

LUCIE Nm 50.000 Viscose83% Polyamide17%

It is a unique type of yarn where a rayon core is double-covered with nylon sheath yarns in a crossed arrangement.
Unlike a typical double-covered yarn, which has a straight appearance, Lucie has an intricate, delicate crimped texture that sets it apart.

How LUCIE Is Made

The secret lies in a rare attachment called a flyer.
By equipping the spinning machine with this special device and applying consistent tension to the sheath yarn, slack in the covering yarn is minimized.

During dyeing, the difference in shrinkage between the sheath and the core creates a fascinating effect:
the core yarn, with no room to move, pushes outward, forming LUCIE’s signature fine, delicate crimped shape.

This process relies on both twisting expertise and precise control of fiber shrinkage differences—a skill few spinners possess.

Outside Japan, especially in China, it’s extremely difficult to find a mill equipped with a flyer.
Even in Japan, only a handful of factories have this capability, making Lucie a highly rare and valuable yarn.

Characteristics of LUCIE

LUCIE’s strong double-cover twist, combined with its fine texture, offers unique benefits:

Because its texture is gentle, Lucie can be used almost like straight yarn, yet it adds a touch of visual interest.
It works beautifully in not only jersey fabrics but also ribs or other structures where a hint of surface variation is desired.

In Summary

LUCIE is a yarn that embodies Japanese ingenuity and precision.
Its production is limited even within Japan, yet it is highly valued overseas for the subtle beauty it brings to fabric design.

If you’re looking for a yarn that offers both comfort and understated sophistication, LUCIE is the perfect choice—a truly world-class example of Japanese textile craftsmanship.
